What is Reiki?

Reiki is an energy-based healing modality that can help you heal physically, emotionally, and mentally. Reiki operates based on the assumption that everything is comprised of energy and that issues arise when natural energy pathways are inhibited in some way. Reiki heals by removing energetic blockages and restoring your energy pathways to their optimal state. It's also effective at activating the body's natural healing process, improving physical and emotional well-being.

Reiki is effective for treating a large variety of mental disorders, such as anxiety and depression, but it can also be effective for grief and breaking unhealthy emotional ties to others. It can even be used to alleviate some physical ailments. Reiki can be effective in as little as one session but sometimes takes a few sessions to resolve the issue completely.
Reiki may be used to treat any psychological or emotional issue that standard therapy would resolve, even many that it wouldn't. It can be used as a stand-alone therapy or supplement to other therapy techniques. Reiki is a very safe procedure that has no known negative side effects.

Does It Work?

EMDR is an extremely effective and research-backed form of therapy but it isn't the only form of therapy that is effective. Sometimes EMDR is not the best option or the most effective option for someone or what they are struggling with. Reiki is a surprisingly effective form of treatment that can serve as an alternative or supplement to EMDR therapy.

Reiki does work. As a natural skeptic, I've been suspicious of it's impact but I've seen time and time again that it works. I've even had clients who don't believe in it be stunned at what they've gotten out of it. I am continually surprised by its results and have seen Reiki work for issues that EMDR hadn't worked for. I've even had clients who have looked and felt visibly different following a Reiki session.
Reiki can be used as a stand alone treatment or as a supplement to EMDR. I've had clients who have found Reiki to be more effective than EMDR and I've had clients that just wanted to try it out once and see if it did anything. The only way you will know if it works for you is by trying it so I'd encourage seeing if it works for you if you feel inclined to do so.

What to Expect

During a typical Reiki session, you lay on a standard massage table, fully clothed and comfortable, listening to relaxing music while Reiki is performed on you. A Reiki practitioner most commonly uses their hands to sense energy disturbances and applies healing energy to the identified area until the energy is healed which can be done completely without physical touch based on your comfort level. During a Reiki session, you may experience various physical sensations such as tingling or heat or see visualizations of images or color in your mind's eye. A Reiki session lasts between 10 and 40 minutes.
Why EMDR & Counseling Center for Reiki?
Our goal at the EMDR & Counseling Center is to improve our patients' quality of life by alleviating all forms of distress and empowering the client to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Reiki is not often used in conjunction with mental health therapy because it operates in a non-visible realm of reality that we have generally been closed off to, but its results are both powerful and tangible. Our clinicians specialize in non-traditional therapy techniques that we consider to be more effective than traditional talk therapy and Reiki is one more option in our toolbox that we can use to help you heal.
